For Professionals

Payer source trends for therapy services are trending toward cost-containment, resulting in fewer visits and higher co-pays and shifting more responsibility for therapeutic interventions from therapists to clients.  The Leg Coach® is an essential component for the orthopedic practice, physical therapist, or occupational therapist promoting functional recovery and independence of their clients.  For users with a painful lower extremity, such as those who have received a total knee replacement, it is hypothesized that the efficiency and user control inhibits protective responses that can be counterproductive to therapeutic goals.  This control is achieved by the compartment of the Leg Coach® encompassing the foot combined with bilateral hand grips providing user confidence in the prescribed motion or stretch.  We are currently seeking a partner(s) to gather and formalize data related to the Leg Coach® and its role in the rehab process of clients who are post-total knee arthroplasty and clients with back pain.  Contact us at legcoach1@gmail.com if you are interested in partnering in optimizing patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Knee Stretching and Range of Motion

The Leg Coach® is an excellent device for stretching the knee.  The user is able to control their own stretch, comfortably sustain the stretch using larger muscle groups of bilateral upper extremities, and can be used in combination with contract relax strategies.  Incorporating the Leg Coach® into treatment sessions makes home exercises an intuitive transition from clinic to home.

Hamstring Stretching

Shortened hamstring length is a common characteristic associated with abnormalities in gait and posture, low back pain, sciatica, and many other lower body dysfunctions.  The Leg Coach® is an effective tool for self-stretching the hamstrings.  Hamstring stretching in the supine position stabilizes the pelvis and lumbar spine, which facilitates a pure hamstring stretch while protecting low back structures.  The supine position also provides a safe position for those with compromised balance whether acute or chronic in nature.

Hip Stretching and Range of Motion

The Leg Coach® is an excellent device for stretching and self-ranging the hip, most commonly applicable after surgery or trauma.  Clients are able to control their own stretch and motion, comfortably sustain a stretch using larger muscle groups of both arms, and do so in supine, which eliminates fall risk.  Incorporating the Leg Coach® into treatment sessions for clients post hip arthroplasty, ORIF of hip fractures, and other conditions where hip motion is limited, makes home exercises an intuitive transition.  The Leg Coach® facilitates the client’s active participation in their rehabilitation process helping achieve outcomes in a timely manner.

Leg Lifter

Use the Leg Coach® to teach clients how to safely and securely assist a lower extremity during transitions such as moving from sitting to supine and transferring into a vehicle.  Clients prefer the Leg Coach® to traditional leg lifting devices because both upper extremities compensate for the weak lower limb and there are no worries about the foot slipping off the device.
